Trump's Address to Farm Bureau: 'Farm Country Is God's Country'

But as we approach his one-year anniversary in office, Trump's words on the campaign trail ring hollow as the promises he made to his base go unfulfilled.

Fleischmann said Trump was very kind and wanted the people of Tennessee to know he truly cares about their well-being. "Corrupt politics left our economies hurting, stagnant and millions of hard-working employees completely forgotten".

Overall, Trump was warmly received; he then closed by declaring that "farm country is God's country".

Trump talked about the new tax plan in place as well. "That is a tremendous thing", he said of the ability to deduct it all in one year as opposed to over many years.

The estate tax was especially unpopular with farmers, who often seek to give their sizable agricultural properties to children.

Trump stressed that most farmers would be exempt from inheritance tax: "From now on, most family farms and small-business owners will be spared ... the deeply unfair estate tax - known as the death tax - so you can keep your farms in the family".

Exit polls in 2016 showed that Trump had much more support from rural voters than from voters in cities and suburbs.

In Nashville Monday, the president also highlighted his administration's focus on rolling back water and other environmental regulations many in the agriculture industry, including the Farm Bureau, view as burdensome. "It was an assault, indeed", Trump said. He pointed to previous success with opening the Chinese market to USA beef as evidence of his administration's ongoing efforts to improve trade for agriculture.

"To get a deal, we need all sides to seriously roll up their sleeves and get to work", Perdue said.

Trump acknowledged controversy over the North American Free Trade Agreement and other trade agreements that account for roughly a quarter of USA agriculture revenues. In 2017, the American Farm Bureau Federation, the largest organization of farmers, spent more than $3 million on lobbying.

Trump also spoke of adding better internet connectivity to rural regions, something he hopes will increase job attraction to such communities.

President Trump signed an executive order Monday afternoon expanding broadband internet to rural America.

Richard T. Cullen, the executive director of Connect Americans Now-an advocacy group formed by Microsoft that intends to help expand broadband internet access-offered support for President Trump's order. The second order will streamline the installation process by requiring agencies to use standardized forms and contracts for installing antennas on federal buildings, thus improving process efficiency.

The president was greeted by cheers and a smattering of boos when he took to the field in Atlanta, escorted by ROTC members. The order will make it easier for companies to install high-speed broadband networks in rural areas and provide services to customers.

In his Farm Bureau speech, the president said the administration is "reviewing all our trade agreements to make sure that they are fair and reciprocal". The 2014 farm law made the federally subsidized program the major US farm support at around $8 billion a year, ahead of crop subsidies and land stewardship.

Trump touted the just-passed tax reform bill and the relief it will bring to farmers and ranchers.
