John Dickerson named co-host of CBS This Morning

John Dickerson, the host of CBS New's "Face The Nation", has been tapped to replace former morning TV anchor Charlie Rose.

CBS News terminated Charlie Rose in November after eight women accused him of sexual harrassment, with allegations including groping, unwanted sexual advances and inappropriate phone calls.

The announcement, from CBS News president David Rhodes on Tuesday, comes more than a month after Rose was sacked from the network amid allegations of sexual misconduct.

Dickerson has anchored Face the Nation for over two years, as it generated some of its largest audience levels of the past three decades.

Dickerson will join Gayle King and Norah O'Donnell as permanent co-host on the morning broadcast beginning Wednesday, according to statement from CBS News President David Rhodes. Dickerson will be replaced on Face the Nation.

The move the latest in a series of on-air changes at CBS News.

Rhodes said in his memo that he'll be in Washington later this week to begin the process of finding Dickerson's replacement there.

By naming Dickerson, a veteran Beltway journalist who often provides historical analysis in his coverage, CBS News is sending a signal that its morning program will retain its positioning as a hard-news alternative to the other broadcast networks' offerings in that time slot. Dickerson has been a reporter in Washington since 1995, covering the White House, Congress and economics. Most recently, he was Slate Magazine's chief political correspondent winning the Ford Prize for Distinguished Reporting on the Presidency.

John said, "On the campaign trail I've collected complements about CBS This Morning's commitment to the news for years now". CBS appointed Dickerson on the sixth anniversary of the morning show, which is in third place in the morning ratings but has made inroads with a newsy approach. "Can't think of better way to celebrate and kick off our next chapter", King said in a press release issued by CBS.

The question for CBS News executives is how to keep the show's momentum going. "CBS This Morning" is in its closest competitive position with "Today" in at least three decades and in almost two decades.
