Pakistan summons United States envoy over Trump's tweet

US President Donald Trump who is known for his outspoken tweets, today slammed Pakistan for giving a safe haven to terrorists and misusing its financial aid.

Lawmakers and former government officials have praised Trump for his approach to the protests in Iran.

The President last August demanded Pakistan "change immediately" its practice of giving safe haven to terror groups including the Taliban, which have assaulted USA forces based in neighboring Afghanistan.

The tweet brought a quick and pointed rejoinder from Pakistan, which said it had done much for the United States, helping it to "decimate" Al-Qaeda, while getting only "invective & mistrust" in return.

While some have shared Trump's tweets, many in Iran distrust him as he's refused to re-certify the nuclear deal and because his travel bans have blocked Iranians from getting US visas.

Reacting to the ongoing protests in Iran, in which now at least 12 people have been killed in clashes with security services, Trump said Iran is "failing at every level".

"They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help".

"President Trump has put Pakistan on notice", Pence said at the time.

"We will respond to President Trump's tweet shortly inshallah. Will let the world know the truth.difference between facts & fiction.", Asif tweeted.

Trump and U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson were among those in the administration to praise Pakistan in October after security officials there rescued from captivity of American Caitlan Coleman, her Canadian husband Joshua Boyle and their children.

Trump said in laying out his national security strategy on December 18 that "while we desire continue partnership [with Pakistan], we must see decisive action against terrorist groups operating on their territory". He also expressed a desire to see India - Pakistan's arch rival - become a closer partner.

Abbasi has said in interviews Pakistan is committed to the fight against terrorism, and has suffered significant casualties through the years due to deadly attacks from militant groups.

Before taking office in December 2016, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was characterized by Trump as a "terrific guy" and the USA president vowed "to play any role" to address long-standing problems.
