Electrical fire displaces Texas family of eight on Christmas Eve

Firefighters quickly extinguished a grease fire and prevented it from spreading to the rest of the house late Sunday night.

A Dorchester County family is now without a home this Christmas after it was destroyed in a two alarm fire in Hurlock, Christmas morning.

Investigators say flames came through the roof of the 20 unit building, part of the roof on one end of the building collapsed. "You can always replace the contents of a home but you can't replace a life".

He said, "We smelled smoke so we got up and checked the house out".

About four fire departments were called to fight the fire.

Mohamed and his sister talked to the woman and calmed her down-she told Mohamed that she opened the back door to the home and saw smoke. They said the apartments were either burned or heavily damaged by water.

According to Mobile Fire-Rescue they believe the fire started in a bedroom but the cause is under investigation.

"The first floor is pretty well a write-off", Dennis said.

Lincoln Fire Inspector Ken Hilger said that the fire at the home on the 800 block of West Burnham Street was mostly contained to the attic.
