Man arrested after San Francisco Christmas terror threat

At the same meeting, Jameson allegedly suggested a bomb-and-gun attack on Pier 39, a popular tourist area on the San Francisco waterfront.

According to the undercover agent, Jameson said he wanted to use explosives and "funnel" people into a location where he could inflict casualties. He reportedly said Christmas would be "the ideal day to commit the attack".

According to a criminal complaint filed Friday, Jameson came to the FBI's attention on September 19, when a source who has previously reported to the agency on national security matters flagged his Facebook profile, where he appeared to be "liking" pro-ISIS posts.

According to the complaint, "Jameson stated that we need something along the lines of NY or San Bernardino", referring to terror attacks that took place in those cities earlier this year. According to a handwritten letter obtained by the FBI, Jameson also referred to himself as Abdallah adu Everitt ibn Gordon.

The FBI's investigation began on September 19, when an FBI informant reported a suspicious Facebook account.

The FBI contends that when Jameson met with undercover agents December 16, it was under the guise that he was making contact with high-level ISIS leadership. The next day, Jameson said, in part, "We are in desperate times".

In 2009, Jameson attended basic recruit training and obtained a sharpshooter rifle qualification before being discharged for fraudulent enlistment, according to the complaint.

It was too late: Two days later, Federal Bureau of Investigation agents descended on Jameson's home in Modesto and served a search warrant that reportedly turned up several handguns, a rifle, assorted fireworks, and a last will and testament notarized a month ago.

The FBI has charged a Modesto, California man with attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization.

The FBI also discovered a handgun along with ammunition.

San Francisco acting Mayor London Breed praised law enforcement for foiling the alleged plot and said that while there was no known additional threats, police would be increasing their presence. "Sadly, that makes our home a target", she said in a statement.

Jameson will appear in federal court in Fresno at 2 p.m.
