Amazon acquires connected camera and doorbell startup Blink

Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) has acquired startup company Blink.

Home security provider Blink earlier this week announced a new wireless doorbell that'll debut at CES next month.

Blink first broke cover back in 2014, then the following year announced a crowdfunding campaign aiming to raise $200k for its entirely wire-free security camera.

Blink's Doorbells run on two AA lithium batteries that last the cameras up to two years before they're needed to be replaced.

Amazon told CNBC, "As one of their distributors, we already know customers love their home security cameras and monitoring systems".

Blink, a smart home surveillance company, has officially confirmed it has been bought up by Amazon.

Amazon's catalog of Alexa-powered devices is leading the company's smart home push. The e-Commerce giant has looked into ways of leaving packages in trunks of vehicles and having Amazon deliverers access customers' homes and leave the package inside. "If you own one of our systems, nothing changes for now", Blink said in a statement. That started with the Amazon Cloud Cam, a streaming video camera that requires mains power, and which is an instrumental part of Amazon Key, its home delivery service. But, Amazon may use Blink's technology to ensure safety for its customers to increase customer satisfaction. Blink also says it will continue to sell and support its products, but again, this could change. "It's Day 1 for us at Amazon, and we're looking forward to seeing what we can deliver to our customers together", reads the press release from Blink.
