Dimitrov thanks Scherzinger for giving him the X Factor at ATP Finals

From 3-0, 15-0 down in the opening set, Goffin won 15 consecutive points to take control of the match, and never relented.

The match turned early in the second set, when Goffin swung a cross-court forehand into space vacated by Federer to edge 2-0 ahead.

But a double-fault at 4-3, 30-30 opened the door for Dimitrov to break back for a second time and he converted as Goffin sent a forehand long.

The win will propel Dimitrov to a career-best position in the ATP rankings, where he will finish the year as third in the world, irrespective of the outcome of the final against Goffin.

The absentee from the O2 Arena this evening is of course Roger Federer, who was stunningly defeated in yesterday's semi-final by David Goffin.

Dimitrov battled to a 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory against Goffin at the O2 Arena in London, while Scherzinger ran the rule over wannabe pop stars on United Kingdom talent show The X Factor.

The two finalists shared the first two sets but Goffin was broken at 2-3 in the decider after the crowd interrupted his service motion.

The first game of this interesting encounter was already a classic, with Goffin having to fend off the merciless offense from Federer immediately from the first rally.

"One person that, I don't know if she's in the hall or not, but she played a pretty important part, was my girlfriend Nicole. I'm just going to focus on what I can do and play hopefully the same game".

Goffin pummelled his good friend Dominic Thiem 6-4, 6-1 to advance to the semi-finals in London on Friday but admits toppling Federer will be a daunting task.

The Swiss broke again in the fifth game before serving out the set in the eighth after 33-minutes of action.

Goffin, 26, landed just 42 percent of first serves in the first set and made 20 unforced errors, struggling to find the bite and consistency he had enjoyed in beating Federer.

Both players stepped out onto court with an air of confidence, but it was Dimitrov who took the early lead, breaking Sock in the second, much to the young American's visible frustration. I was very composed and didn't let negative thoughts come to my head.

With the pendulum suddenly swinging, Goffin took advantage of two double faults from the racquet of Dimitrov, smashing a forehand victor past him to seal the break in the next game. The Bulgarian had lost his previous two clashes with Sock having held match points and three went begging in a nervy finale before he ended the contest. "But I will try something different for sure, yeah".
