Saudi Arabia intercepts missile targeting Riyadh airport

"The rocket landed on the airport campus and did not cause any significant damage".

A ballistic missile launched from Yemen was intercepted northeast of Saudi Arabia's capital, Riyadh, according to local media.

"Travelers across King Khalid global airport in Riyadh, we assure you that the movement is going on as normal and usual, and trips going according to time", the airport tweeted. As reported by Al Jazeera, the incident occurred on Saturday, November 4th.

A Saudi-led coalition became involved in 2015 to help prop up Hadi's government after Shiite Huthis seized the capital Sanaa.

"We have reports - eyewitnesses on the ground and video that hasn't been verified yet - of outgoing fire, which might well be air defence missile fire coming out of the airport".

Saudi forces have reported shooting down missiles fired by Houthi rebels in Yemen on multiple occasions this year.

"This is a very significant development".

"If the Iranians have supplied a long distance missile, which is the only explanation really, then the big question is how will the Saudis respond".

The spokesperson of the coalition Col. Tuki Al Maliki said in a statement that a probe into the allegations that included full revision of all operations proved that the airstrike attacked a military target of a gathering of armed Houthi militias, including missile experts.

The responsibility for the explosion in Riyadh took the Yemeni Houthi rebels.
