Civilians Dead from Saudi Airstrike in Yemen, Houthi Rebels Claim

At least 26 people, including children, were killed in Yemen's northern Saada province when a suspected air strike by the military coalition led by Saudi Arabia hit a hotel and a neighboring market.

- It is still unclear whether the 21 men killed were civilians or Houthi fighters.

The coalition, which has faced repeated worldwide criticism over civilian casualties, said it was investigating the reports without claiming responsibility for the attack in Saada governorate.

The coalition couldn't be immediately reached for comment.

The Houthi group denies those charges and says it is conducting a patriotic resistance against outside aggressors in thrall to the West.

According to a Houthi-run news agency, Sabaa, all the victims were civilians.

Last month, the United Nations added the coalition to its annual list of shame for killing hundreds of children in Yemen a year ago.

"These crimes and killings show the bankruptcy and heavy defeat of the Saudi-led coalition" and demoralization of its leaders, it added.

The conflict was sparked in September 2014 when the internationally recognised government of President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi was expelled from the capital Sanaa by the Houthis.

"Saudi Arabia is after compensating its failures in political and field arenas with such violent actions against civilians and innocent people of Yemen", asserted the Iranian diplomat after offering sympathies to the bereaved families and the Yemeni nation.

According to the United Nations, more than 10,000 people have been killed in the conflict.
