PM launches infra projects worth Rs 3769 crore in Bihar

"Pace of development will increase in Bihar now that a BJP-JDU alliance has come to power again", said Nitish Kumar, who in July walked out of the Grand Alliance which also included Lalu Prasad's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress over corruption allegations against Lalu's son and the then Deputy Bihar CM Tejashwi Yadav.

The centenary celebrations of the Patna University (PU) were attended by Modi along with Kumar.

During his visit, development projects worth Rs 3,700 crore would be launched by the Prime Minister.

"There is no state in the country where one does not find a Patna University alumnus among the top five bureaucrats".

"We intend to do the same for our universities and ensure that our centres of higher learning figure among the best 500 in the world", Modi told PTI. "10 private & 10 public universities will be given a fund of Rs 10,000 Crore over 5 yrs to make them world-class", he added. After attending the Patna University function, the prime minister went to Mokama were he laid the foundation stone of projects under Namami Gange programme and National Highway projects in Bihar.

Union road transport minister Nitin Gadkari, who also holds the portfolio of water resources, will accompany the prime minister for the ceremony.

Addressing the students, the PM said, "As youngsters, I urge you to think about innovative solutions to the problems faced by people around you". We are working tirelessly to fulfil their aspirations.

PM Narendra Modi also spoke about the current and former education system of India.

"But today while welcoming PM Modi to "his Patna University", he tweeted, "...even I got an invitation, alas very late and with a very short notice...delayed by the "more loyal than the King's people" involved in the affair.

"Considering the existing treatment capacity of the city and existing waste generation and (estimated) waste generation till 2035, a total of 11 projects under World Bank funding are sanctioned for six zones which will create a total of 350 MLD of STP capacity and will lay down 1140.26 km of sewerage network at a cost of Rs 3582.41crore", the statement said. "This university has nurtured students who have contributed greatly to the nation".
