Asia Cup: India continues rampant march, brushes aside Pakistan 3-1

Continuing their dominance in the ongoing Asia Cup, India beat arch-rivals Pakistan by 3-1 margin in a Pool A match of the tournament on Sunday.

The Pakistan vs India match will be broadcast live on PTV Sports, Star Sports 2 Star Sports HD 2.

Pakistan won the very first encounter in 1982 when they registered a thumping 4-0 win over India.

India, who had not created a proper goal-scoring chance in the first quarter, got the lead in the 17th minute. Chinglensana opened India's account in the first quarter of the game following which Ramandeep bettered India's advantage in the 43rd minute and just two minutes later, Harmanpreet added a third for India.

After Pakistan wasted their third penalty corner, Ramandeep doubled India's lead in the 44th minute with a neat deflection off Harmanpreet Singh's fantastic cross from the middle of the pitch.

India controlled the proceedings for the better part of the match, barring the final quarter when Pakistan, trailing 0-3, came hard on the Indian defence in search of goals.

The two arch-rivals last played each other in the Hockey World League Semi Final in London earlier this year.

India will now move into the second round of Super 4s where the top teams from both the pool will play in the round-robin format before the knockouts.

Twitter came alive after the match with several celebrities, among others, congratulating the Indian team on the superb win.

Q4 55'min: Penalty Corner - Close attack by Pak, India succumbs to their combined attack, nearly a goal. India lead 1-0. India managed to convert only two of the 13 penalty corners in the game against Bangladesh.

Q3 41'min: Akashdeep and Gurjant exchange inside D, but Gurjant sends the ball on the charging Pakistan goalkeeper, India missed the golden chance to extend their lead. After beating Japan 5-1 in their opening match, the Manpreet Singh-led side mauled minnows Bangladesh 7-0 on Friday. For Pakistan, Ali Shan (49th) was the lone scorer.
