Barcelona chief Grau: We have the money to buy Coutinho in January

Liverpool are understood to be furious with Barcelona after they publicly declared their intentions to try and sign Philippe Coutinho in the January transfer window.

The Reds turned down three bids from the Spanish side in the summer, with their final offer worth £114.2 million, insisting the midfielder would not leave Merseyside.

Coutinho's protracted move to Barcelona was one of the most heavily talked about transfer that never came to fruition.

Oscar Grau admitted on Wednesday that Barca were "ready to buy Coutinho" when the market reopens for business at the beginning of next year.

With the Reds without another of their key men, Sadio Mane, for Saturday's clash with Manchester United, Liverpool were hoping for a distraction-free week in the build-up to the game.

However, the 25-year-old playmaker tried to force a move to Barcelona during the summer with the La Liga giants submitting multiple offers for the Brazil global.

And their third bid arrived less than 24 hours before Jurgen Klopp's side took on Crystal Palace, with the Catalan side clearly looking to force Fenway Sports Group's hand. Those Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona rumours are resurfacing.

In the same deal, Coutinho also positively received option of him to keep playing with Liverpool in the Champions League although later he will be a cup-tie status with Barcelona.

"But will they convince Liverpool?".

"I would be gobsmacked if they consider doing business in January, absolutely gobsmacked".

"We must forget about the price paid for Neymar last summer".
