Worker fatally shoots former boss, self at Midtown construction site

The 37-year-old formean had been shot in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say the suspect in the shooting was later found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the fifth floor.

NYPD Deputy Chief Christopher J. McCormack, speaking at a news conference, said Perry, described by other workers as "a bit of a hothead", was sacked two days before the shooting.

Carpenter Robert Pagan said he was working in the building when he heard gunfire and ran to help.

Perry had reportedly been hinting at his deadly plan a day or two before carrying it out. He said like Perry, he's a contractor, and that being laid off is part of the job.

Workers claimed the man was a disgruntled former employee who was sacked a few days ago.

One of Perry's neighbors, a man who only identified himself as Mike, said he had worked on construction jobs with him in the past and also knew Sayers.

"He's a good worker". "For him to do this?" The shooter has been arrested three times in the past, according to police: twice for assault, and once for burglary. The suspect was last arrested in 2005. "He comes in the morning real early, drinks his coffee, smokes his cigarette". "He told me no calmly, I gave him a hug and proceeded to go downstairs".

"He's a quiet guy", Greaves said.

The suspect, who is from Plainview, New York, was sacked for insubordination by Sayers on Monday when he became outraged after being told to redo a wall construction.

"It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to two union brothers today", Local 212 said in a statement, according to the Post. "Our honest condolences to the family and friends of NYCDCC member Christopher Sayers who lost his life to reckless workplace violence at 645 W. 59th St".
