ISIS claims responsibility for mass shooting in Las Vegas

Internal communications from ISIS, intercepted by threat intelligence platform CyberEyesOn from BLACKOPS Cyber, show that the terrorist organization gave the shooter, Stephen Paddock, a Muslim name and claim he converted to Islam several months ago.

"The Las Vegas attack was carried out by a soldier of the Islamic State and he carried it out in response to calls to target states of the coalition", the group's news agency Amaq said in reference to the US -led coalition fighting the group in the Middle East. "The idea that the Islamic State simply scans the news in search of mass killings, then sends out press releases in hope of stealing glory, is false", Atlantic National Correspondent and author Graeme Wood noted Monday on why the claim should be taken seriously.

Another statement said: "The Las Vegas attacker converted to Islam a few months ago". Notably, the group claimed credit for a deadly mass shooting at a Manila casino in June, although no connection between the gunman and the group was ever discovered.

Stephen Paddock's family said he had no political or religious affiliation.

Paddock reportedly killed himself as police moved in on the 32nd-floor hotel room he was using to shoot down on the crowd.

But police later identified the attacker as a heavily indebted Filipino gambling addict, saying it was a botched robbery that was not terrorism-related.

In an apparent attempt to raise morale, ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi released an audio message last week, the first since November, vowing to continue fighting and lavishing praise on his jihadis for their valor in the battlefield.

The terrorist group published at least one English video on October 3 about the Las Vegas attack.

It came after the group claimed responsibility for a stabbing attack that left two young women dead in the French city of Marseille earlier on Sunday.

He urged followers to "intensify one attack after another against the infidels", following a spike in global terror attacks.

The shooter, Omar Mateen, had pledged allegiance to Isis and it claimed the attack.

"The Las Vegas attack was carried out by a soldier of the Islamic State and he carried it out in response to calls to target states of the coalition", Amaq news agency said in reference to the USA -led coalition fighting the group in the Middle East. He said of renewed calls for greater gun control that "we'll be talking about gun laws as time goes by".

"More likely, ISIS's supporters will believe what the group says and not what is proven beyond a doubt by the Western media", Clarke added.
