Processions, majalis for 10th of Muharram conclude peacefully across country

The cellular services will remain suspended from 9:00 am till 12:00 pm.

Amid rampant militancy and sectarianism, stringent security arrangements have been put in place to avoid any untoward incident on Ashura days.

Though police said the restrictions have been imposed to prevent any law and order problem in the summer capital, official source said it was to prevent "Tazia Processions" from Guru Bazar in the old city to Imam Bara Dalgate via civil lines on the 8th day of Muharram. The main congregation centre, Nishtar Park, has been divided into nine sectors.

Pillion riding has been banned across Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa on 8th, 9th and 10th Muharram.

The procession then proceeded to Numaish Chowrangi, from where it followed MA Jinnah Road towards Regal Chowk, and paused at Tibet Centre for Zuhr prayers.

It will culminate at Hussainia Iranian Imambargah in the evening.

Police and paramilitary troopers were deployed in strength in the restriction bound areas and concertina wires were erected at various places to thwart any possible Muharram procession. In Lahore, the procession emerged from Nisar Havel and concluded at Imambargah Karbala Gamay Shah.

In Peshawar, main procession was taken out from Imambargah Hussainia Hall, Saddar which will terminate after passing through its traditional route at its starting point.

Moreover, the cellular services will also remain suspended in Karachi and other parts of the country on 10Muharram (tomorrow).
