Amit Shah calls out Rahul Gandhi on 'dynasty politics'

The BJP is committed to ushering in a "New India" as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that will have good governance and corruption free atmosphere and the party believes in promoting the "politics of performance", party chief Amit Shah said here on Monday.

A former chief minister during the Shiv Sena-BJP government, Rane defected to Congress in 2005 after criticising Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray's son and political heir Uddhav. "We hold the country first and party as secondary", he said.

Shah's statement came at the ongoing BJP's National Executive Meet which is being attended by almost 2,500 party members, including 13 Chief Ministers. This, he said, reflects the trust reposed in the party by voters and their expectations from its leaders.

Shah said the economy was stronger under this government than it was under the UPA and cited figures to make his point, Union minister Piyush Goyal told reporters while briefing them on the party president's speech. The national executive on Monday thanked the Prime Minister and finance minister Arun Jaitley for accomplishing two "great achievements" of demonetisation and implementing GST. "While traditional politics will go on, with the mandate that we have got, we are taking democracy beyond elections", he stressed.

"The fact is that the BJP is only an instrument of electoral math and those electoral dividends are reaped by polarising the society. A robust organisation at the grass root level will help the government reach out directly to the people", said A.K. Verma, a Kanpur-based political analyst. "Harsh language can't be a substitute for any substantive charge", Modi had said at the meet, FM revealed.

"The Government is relentlessly working in the interests of the poor".

Party sources said the BJP, which runs a coalition government in the disturbed state with the People's Democratic Party (PDP) is keen to rebuild ties with the people in the state even as it sets about plugging channels that sponsor terrorism. He said that initiatives such as Swachh Bharat had become a movement of public welfare because of mass participation.
