Facebook Bans Posts On Rohingya Militant Group ARSA

Mr. Singh said India would not be violating any worldwide law if it deports Rohingya as it is not a signatory to the U.N.'s 1951 Refugees Convention.

Rights monitors and fleeing Rohingya say the army and Rakhine Buddhist vigilantes responded with violence and arson aimed at driving out the mostly stateless Muslim population, which the United Nations rights agency called "a textbook example of ethnic cleansing".

"We have told Myanmar that they will have to take back their citizens".

More than 400,000 have fled from Rakhine to neighbouring Bangladesh amid a military crackdown, launched shortly after a 25 August attack on police posts by Rohingya militants.

In a release the Commission stated: "In this situation deporting the Rohingya children and their mothers staying in different shelter homes and correctional homes of Bengal means to throw them into the jaws of death".

Numerous displaced have arrived with horrific tales of killings and rapes by Myanmar's security forces and Buddhist militias.

Communal tensions remain sky high across Rakhine where raids by Rohingya militants at the end of last month sparked a massive army crackdown and an unprecedented exodus of the Muslim group which the United Nations has called "ethnic cleansing".

Foreign aid groups said that made them a target of local hostility-and many have reined in or stopped their operations for safety reasons.

Eight people were detained and several police were injured before order was restored late at night.

"National races" is a Myanmar term referring to members of officially recognised indigenous ethnic groups who make up the diverse nation. This is the first comment the USA has made about the plight of the Rohingya.

The Rohingya villagers said they wanted to leave, but they needed government protection from Buddhist Rakhins who threatened to kill them.

"It was an encouraging address and contained a very positive message", India's Ambassador to Myanmar Vikram Misri told the media after Suu Kyi's state of the union address on the issue.

The exodus has also emerged as a major blemish on the record of Myanmar's civilian leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, who maintained close ties to the Obama administration.

Other world leaders this week have also called for an end to the violence, with French President Emmanuel Macron calling it "genocide" and Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina saying it was an "unbearable human catastrophe".

Over the days, Suu Kyi's silence has drawn widespread criticism.

"We can arrange for you to visit these areas and ask them yourselves why they did not flee", she said.

India has also extended humanitarian assistance to Bangladesh to handle the refugee crisis.
