Jeremy Kerley signing with Jets on one-year deal

Wide receiver Jeremy Kerley, who played for Gang Green from 2011 to 2015, signed a one-year deal with the team Tuesday after taking a free-visit to Florham Park earlier in the day, ESPN reported. With 246 catches, the 28-year-old Kerley has the most receptions among the team's receivers. Kerley is a former fifth-round pick of the Jets back in 2011.

Kerley was acquired by the 49ers in a trade with the Detroit Lions on August 29, 2016. He returned to the club in the spring on a new three-year, $10.5-million contract.

The Jets are particularly interested in Kerley as a return man.

In 2016, Kerley appeared in all 16 games (13 starts) for San Francisco and led the team with a career-high 64 receptions for 667 yards and three touchdowns.

But new coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch made a decision to go a different direction when assembling the regular season roster before Sunday's opener against Carolina.

The release of Kerley meant the 49ers won't be keeping any of their receivers or quarterbacks from last season's passing attack that ranked dead last in the National Football League averaging 182 yards per game. That according to the New York Daily News. NY cut its top two wide outs in Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker, and third-year receiver Quincy Enunwa will miss the entire 2017 campaign due to a neck injury.
