MTV invited transgender troops to the VMAs, continues to be progressive champ

"MTV has invited transgender members of the USA armed forces to the 2017 Video Music Awards and we would be honoured if they could attend", said Christopher McCarthy, president of MTV. The music-oriented television network has reportedly reached out to the military, and requested some of its members to participate. However, MTV wished to have them on the show and witness the momentous awards ceremonies.

"MTV has requested service member participation for this year's VMAs", a Pentagon spokesperson confirmed to CNN.

Active-duty servicemen and women face restrictions on high-profile public appearances, especially those with a political message. McCarthy said, "A patriot who is sacrificing his or her own life to fight for freedom and supports equality is an MTV hero, as well as to the young people anywhere".

"The objective of this video was to shine the light on this very important cause - pairing that with recognition from MTV is incredible", said Spencer Battiest, Hard Rock Records alumnus, member of the Seminole Tribe of Florida and one of the "Magnificent Seven". The 2017 MTV Video Music Awards are nearly upon us, and speculation about who's performing at The Forum is at an all-time high.

While some of America's favorite stars will spend the evening sipping drinks from crystal-encrusted flasks (looking at you, Rihanna) and singing along during artist performances at the Forum in Inglewood, California, on Sunday, mere mortals will watch from the other side of the TV screen, anxiously waiting to see which contenders claim a moon man award. In second place are host Katy and The Weeknd, as they both have five VMA nominations this year.

Pop singer Pink, who grew up in Doylestown, will have to rearrange her shelves of Grammys, Billboard, MTV and People's Choice honors to make room for the 2017 Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

Who's hosting? Katy Perry will be leading the charge at this year's awards as the emcee for the night (or, in her words, a self-proclaimed moonwoman). Artist Kendrick Lamar has led the nomination table, earning a total of eight nods.
