Disney, North Korea Drive Dow Jones Industrial Average Lower

President Donald Trump said on Twitter that the United States' nuclear arsenal was now "more powerful than ever before" in a fresh warning to North Korea over its missile tests. The S&P hasn't moved more than 0.5 percent in one day since July and has fallen more than 1 percent only twice this year.

The president warned Pyongyang that any more threats would be met with "fire and fury like the world has never seen".

North Korea said it was considering plans to fire missiles at Guam, a US -held Pacific island, after President Donald Trump on Tuesday warned the nuclear-armed nation that it would face "fire and fury" if it threatened the United States.

Technology and consumer-focused companies helped lift US stocks higher Tuesday, steering the market indexes further into record territory.

In the political sphere, investors will be keeping a close eye on the rising tensions between North Korea and the USA on Wednesday. Energy stocks fell along with crude prices as investors kept an eye on the latest company earnings and geopolitical news. It fell 19 cents, or 0.4 percent, to $49.39 per barrel Monday in NY. Hong Kong's Hang Seng added 0.6 percent. Both were coming off record highs.

Yields on German 10-year bonds - the bloc's benchmark which has the top Triple-A rank by all three ratings firms - fell 2 basis points to 0.456 percent.

In late trading, US 10-year yields were at 2.237. The Dow rallied to another record high as well as the S&P 500 Index after the Labor Department said on Tuesday that job openings, a measure of labor demand, increased 461,000 to a seasonally adjusted 6.2 million, the highest level since the series started in December 2000. The data suggest employers have plenty of jobs to fill but are struggling to find workers. That "looks high enough to be consistent with a 5 percent-plus pace for real GDP growth", said Jim O'Sullivan of High Frequency Economics in a report. "Such investor hopes are also reflected in USA equity prices", said Komal Sri-Kumar, president of Sri-Kumar Global Strategies. Still, he said, "the Washington, D.C., bedlam and North Korea's saber-rattling is muddying the broader landscape". Meanwhile, markets in Japan, South Korea and other Asian countries were also lower, and so-called futures signaled that USA markets would also open down. The euro fell to $1.1760 from $1.1793.

German and US government bonds, alongside gold and the Japanese and Swiss currencies, were the main beneficiaries. September-dated crude futures settled up 0.8%, or 39 cents, at $49.56 per barrel. It declined 23 cents on Tuesday to $52.14.
