War is no solution, India tells China

"As a third party, India has no right to interfere in or impede the boundary talks between China and Bhutan, still less the right to make territorial claims on Bhutan's behalf", the Chinese foreign ministry said in a statement.

India has privately raised objections to Chinese firm Shanghai Fosun Pharmaceutical Group's proposed $1.3 billion takeover of Indian drugmaker Gland Pharma, a source familiar with the matter said on Monday. As far as overall India-China relations are concerned, foreign minister Sushma Swaraj has stated that India's roadmap is peace and that Chinese investments in India have gone up in a big way. She said India was engaged with China to resolve differences and advocated patience.

The Chinese media, well known to reflect the government's views, in an editorial on Saturday said that the "hard line stances" of Prime Minister Narendra Modi are pushing India towards war and jeopardising India's peaceful development. "A solution can not be derived out of war", India's External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said in Parliament on Thursday.

"China has always prioritised diplomacy before resorting to military moves", the commentary said, but the ball was now in India's court.

"The government remains prepared for its responsibilities to ensure the security of its citizens and territory but Swaraj yesterday said that war is not the answer", Baglay said while addressing a press conference in the national capital. India, however, says Chinese troops entered Bhutanese territory in the tri-junction area and PLA's road building attempt violates the 2012 agreement and significantly alters the status quo.

Hu said the military operation would aim to seize Indian personnel "illegally" lingering in Chinese territory or expel them.

The "expert" wrote in the daily that the "Chinese side will inform the Indian foreign ministry before its operation".

Since the incident occurred, China has shown utmost goodwill and sought to communicate with India through diplomatic channels to resolve the incident.

India claims it is legally obliged to aid Bhutan against what it calls China's advances into the disputed territory, amid reports that Chinese forces are building a road there.

On Friday, its defence ministry spokesperson again warned India that the People's Liberation Army's restraint has its bottomline and goodwill has its principles.

China and India are already suspicious of each other because of China's massive investments in Pakistan and Sri Lanka, including Chinese-invested ports in both countries India fears could one day become Chinese military bases, another senior Asian diplomatic source said.
