Zimbabwe: Mugabe, 93, Jets Off to Iran for Rouhani's Inauguration

The diplomat also said presidents of seven countries had arrived Iran by Thursday night to take part in the ceremony.

Iran's supreme leader on Thursday slammed the new USA sanctions on Tehran signed by President Donald Trump the previous day, and vowed his country would continue its missile program despite global pressure. Tehran has prepared measures that Iran would take against the USA action, he added without elaborating, except to say some of the measures will "improve" Iran's armed forces.

Ray based her expectation on a July 21 meeting in Vienna of the Mogherini-chaired commission that brings together Iran and the other parties to discuss the deal's implementation.

On foreign policies, Leader underlined that "international interaction must not make us neglect enemy's plots as some of foreign states just seek destruction of Iran", he said.

At the start of the Trump Administration in January and February, US relations with Iran worsened after the Islamic Republic carried out ballistic missiles tests, and new US sanctions against Iran were announced.

The agreement was championed by former US President Barack Obama and his Administration as one of its landmark foreign policy achievements.

In a ceremony broadcast live on state television, Khamenei gave his official approval for Rouhani, reports Xinhua news agency.

"If the sanctions are to be implemented, there will be problematic times for Iran and for the nuclear deal in general", Hassan Ahmadian, a professor at the University of Tehran, said.

The sanctions imposed on Iran helped the country to grow powerful and self-reliant as the nation turned to the resources and capabilities at home, he added.

"We will certainly not fall into the trap of USA policy and Trump, and our reaction will be very carefully considered", he added.

The accord lifted the nuclear-related sanctions against Iran in exchange for certain restrictions on its nuclear activities.

Rouhani will take the oath of office in the parliament on Saturday.

During his election campaign for a second term in office, Hassan Rouhani, 68, pledged to deliver on his campaign promises of creating a freer society and improving the economic situation in the country.

In May, Rouhani won re-election in a landslide after securing 57 percent of the votes and defeating his main contender Ebrahim Raeisi, the current custodian of the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (PBUH).
