'Focused' Usain Bolt preparing for final races

File photo shows Gold medalist Justin Gatlin of US competing during the men's 100 metre final of the Gyulai Istvan Memorial - Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix.

"His impact on the sport has been massive, and now I'm having the opportunity to build a small relationship with him, and I continue my journey", Van Niekerk said.

We should also add that the 30-year-old Caribbean sprinter has announced that London 2017 will be his last competition for his prolific professional career.

"So I think it's going to be very disappointing for everybody - nobody more so than Andre".

Van Niekerk may not have the sparkling personality that Bolt possesses although, as he demonstrated in an assured performance in front of the world's media here in the shadow of the London Stadium, he's clearly growing more comfortable in the limelight.

McMillan said De Grasse will remain in London for a few days and plans to take in a soccer game on Sunday between Arsenal and Chelsea to help take his mind off running. His sizzling, albeit wind-aided, 9.69 seconds in the 100 metres in Stockholm hinted the Canadian record of 9.84, set by Donovan Bailey in 1996 and tied by Bruny Surin in 1999, might not be long for this world.

They'd originally suspected the injury might just be cramping or tightness, but an ultrasound Tuesday showed a tear. Bolt had also played against Yuvraj Singh in an exhibition match in 2014 during his maiden visit to the country and even scored 19-ball 45, including five sixes.

Usain Bolt's dream of ending his career as 100m World Champion for a fourth time has become closer to a reality after one of his main rivals for the gold medal, Canadian sprinter Andre de Grasse, pulled out.

"Everyone knows I'm always talking about [playing] football, I'm waiting on a call from Mourinho", Bolt said. Bolt hasn't forgotten that race.

"If I show up at a championships you know I'm fully confident and ready to go, and my coach, I'm ready to go". De Grasse is eight inches shorter.

De Grasse made Bolt work harder than expected in the Rio 200 semifinals, his favored event. "But there is absolutely zero disrespect from Andre to Usain". He was part of the Team USA roster at the 2016 Rio Olympics, but his involvement was limited to running in the 4x100 relay qualifying heats and then sat out the final.

Bolt arrived in London as only the fourth-fastest man of the year in the blue-riband event with a season best 9.95 seconds, far off his world record 9.58, and 13 hundredth off the season-leading 9.82 from American Christian Coleman.
