Foxconn to build $10 billion LCD plant in Wisconsin

Foxconn intends to build a manufacturing plant in southeastern Wisconsin that will make liquid-crystal-display screens, the type used in everything from computers to vehicle dash panels.

Wisconsin residents say they are happy to hear Wednesday announcement by President Donald Trump that Electronics giant Foxconn will build a $10 billion factory in Wisconsin that's expected to create 3,000 jobs.

In a ceremony at the White House, Foxconn Chairman Terry Gou announced his firm would invest $10 billion in the state of Wisconsin.

"This is a great day for America", Walker said, adding that the plant was the largest economic development project in the state's history. The company said it planned to invest billions in USA manufacturing just one month after Trump was elected. "This right here shows actual results", said Ryan, a Republican who represents Wisconsin. In June, a company executive identified the seven as Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas and Wisconsin.

Foxconn has announced plans to build a massive facility in the United States, one that will include housing units, service businesses, stores and more.

The Lehigh Valley could still be in play for a Foxconn facility, one of the world's largest electronics manufacturers.

President Donald Trump's announcement Wednesday that Wisconsin had won the high-stakes fight to be home to Foxconn's first US manufacturing plant comes as Walker is preparing to run for a third term. It would initially employ 3,000 workers making an average of $53,900 a year plus benefits and could eventually boast more than four times that.

As the New York Times points out, Foxconn has previously fallen short on its promise to invest in the United States.

The White House would not say what tax incentives were offered to entice the company, but local media reported a package of around $3 billion in tax breaks.

The company has been accused in the past of poor working conditions, particularly at its plants in China.

Though there was no comment from Apple CEO, but Trump said he had talked to Cook and he was going forward with it.

The announcement comes a day after Trump told the Wall Street Journal that Apple CEO Tim Cook promised to build "three big plants, attractive plants" in the United States.

Foxconn makes displays for iPhones and other devices, but so far only has plants in Asia.
