Stock price quotes still not updating in India's NSE - traders

NSE Cash Market segment pre-opened at 11:00 am, however, cash and futures & options segments markets, which was scheduled for an 11:15 am opening, didn't.

On the other hand, the 50-share NSE Nifty rose by 105.25 points, or 1.09 per cent, to 9,771.05, its record closing high despite the country's largest bourse halting trading for over three hours due to technical glitch, leaving investors with no real time updates.

"Two attempts to reopen the market were not successful". Both the Nasdaq and BATS stock exchanges declared self-help against the NYSE amid the technical problems, which allows trading centers to bypass an automated trading center that is experiencing system problems. A Dalal Street broker said: "Small brokers and retail investors were not able to get proper quotes even after 12.30 pm when the exchange claimed that trading was progressing smoothly". The NSE will send a detailed report to Sebi. "A mixed trend at other Asian bourses following a rally on Wall Street on Friday on the back of forecast-busting U.S. jobs data cheered investors here", the report said.

NSE also clarified that it did not shift trading to the Business Continuity Planning or Disaster Recovery sites since those are invoked only during some form of disaster, hardware failure or connectivity issues whereas preliminary assessment on Monday indicated a software problem. Operations finally resumed at 1230 hours.

Sources said Sebi is constantly monitoring the situation and this sort of problem is a serious concern for the ministry, hoping that such situations do not happen again.

"NSE deeply apologises for the glitch". The matter is being examined by the internal technical team of NSE and external vendors, to analyse and identify the cause which led to the issue and to suggest solutions to prevent recurrence.
