Amid pandemonium, Jammu and Kashmir govt moves GST resolution in Assembly

Summary: A staff of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly today fell unconscious during a scuffle between his colleagues and opposition legislators after the speaker issued orders for marshalling out independent MLA Sheikh Abdul Rashid from the house. The House has been adjourned till 2:30 pm.

Srinagar (J and K), July 04 (ANI): A ruckus took place inside the Jammu and Kashmir assembly over the implementation of Goods and Services Tax bill.

The Jammu and Kashmir government has convened a special four-day session of the assembly to discuss the GST implementation which needs a constitutional amendment by the legislature so that the new tax regime is adopted in the state.

"Presently, we are allowing taxes in tourism in Kashmir and industry in Jammu region, " the Deputy Speaker said, adding that "once we surrender our powers under GST, we can not do anything even if we would like to help these industries". However, later Speaker Kavinder Gupta allowed the media men to bring mobiles, laptops and camera inside the Press Gallery of the Legislature to cover the proceedings.

He said there is no rule of law in the state "and the lawmakers are only after power". The opposition charged the ruling PDP and BJP of eroding Article 370 by implementing GST in the State in the present form.

The statement said, " Er Rasheed said that the GST crisis issue has exposed Indian claims that J&K is India's integral part, as had it been so easy then they could have implemented GST directly on J&K, and it is ample proof that J&K is not India and India is not J&K, nor is J&K like any other state of India".

"We are on brink of history and posterity will judge us all on what we say today while we are here to safeguard the special status of J&K", he said.

To this, an infuriated Ansari said, "I can lynch you here".

"The NC leader has already obtained the GST No for businesses owned by him including Jamkash Vehicleades and Take one television registered in his wife's name", he said.

Irked by the repeated disruptions, PDP MLA Javid Hassan Beig entered into a heated argument with Mr. Rashid.
