Ready for some fireworks? Celtics looking to acquire Hayward and George

For salary-cap purposes, Boston wants a Hayward commitment before it can finalize a trade for George and secure the most dynamic free-agent coup in franchise history, league sources said.

After all of the rumors and reports, the Boston Celtics did not end up swinging a trade for a superstar before or during the 2017 NBA Draft.

Boston has maneuvering to do with its roster, including the shedding of salaries to create space to position itself for this scenario. If that's the case, the Celtics could target Blake Griffin, reports Wojnarowski.

Wojnarowski also noted that if the Celtics can not acquire Hayward, there are plans in place to pursue Blake Griffin and still trade for George.

With the National Basketball Association draft over and free agency set to begin, the Celtics are immersed in the middle of what could be a momentous offseason. The Pacers might not be willing to wait until the start of free agency to make a deal.

IN has been focused on trying to complete a deal with Boston for George, league sources told The Vertical. But what Boston can offer the Pacers is young players paired with future draft picks which is something IN desperately needs. The two sides were getting close to a deal on draft night but they were unable to get a third team sufficiently involved to reach an agreement.

John Wall trying to recruit Paul George to Wizards: "Look at our team". Griffin, of course, would be leaving a lot of money on the table if he chose to bolt Los Angeles. It wasn't enough, though, to get past LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, something that adding Paul George or Gordon Hayward to their roster might rectify. But, after telling management that he would be heading elsewhere in 2018, George has been on the trading block ever since.

Several teams are eyeing the services of George but they are wary that he might leave after one season, exercising the player option in his contract.
