New York Jets Releasing Longtime LB David Harris

The Jets longtime linebacker won't be the last veteran player from the New York's locker room to depart ahead of training camp, as ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that New York's front office is planning to either trade or release seven-year veteran receiver Eric Decker this week.

Coach Todd Bowles said the Jets approached Harris about taking a pay cut, but they couldn't agree on a salary.

The surprise isn't so much that the Jets released David Harris today.

The cuts will save the Jets $13.75 million in cap space, which they obviously don't need for any practical reason in 2017.

Bowles was clearly conflicted Tuesday by having to say goodbye to a player he loves and respects and abiding by the wishes of management operating in a cutthroat salary-cap world where loyalty is a one-way street.

It was a disaster for Decker last season as he played just three games, catching nine passes for 194 yards and two touchdowns. If the Vikings were to either sign him or make a trade for him, they instantly improve at wide receiver.

The Jets' purge of veterans this offseason also has included center Nick Mangold, cornerback Darrelle Revis, guard Breno Giacomini, wide receiver Brandon Marshall and kicker Nick Folk.

"He held himself to the highest of standards and always carried himself with a quiet dignity and humility".

You may have already penciled in two wins for the Patriots when they face the Jets in 2017, even before this week. He went on to spend four seasons in Denver before leaving to sign a five-year deal worth NY in 2014 worth more than $36 million. Decker was still in a red non-contact jersey during Monday's organized team activities. The remaining question is what can we expect going forward? Martin happens to be a Jets fan, but you wonder how he feels about his favorite team now that winter most certainly is coming.

"We think very highly of Eric", Maccagnan said. Goodwin could not get a lot of opportunities in Buffalo, but seems excited about his potential role this year in Kyle Shanahan's offense. If the Jets don't see dramatic improvement from Hackenberg or Petty they'll be in the prime striking position to draft from an assortment of passers.

As for how Los Angeles could find themselves in play to bring Decker on board, it sounds insane to even consider, but how awesome would it be if NY was willing to pull off a swap involving Austin?

While that's been going on, a report by NFL Network's Kimberly Jones came out later on in the day that is sure to give Ravens fans and NFL fans in general a good laugh.
