White House advisers postpone Paris climate deal meeting

The Trump administration postponed a meeting to discuss the Paris climate change agreement for the second time Tuesday, prompting suspicions of widening discord in the White House and fears that the US will pull out.

The ten-day conference consists of three main sessions, according to the schedule released by United Nations, namely the session of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI), the session of Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA), as well as the third part of the first session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Paris Agreement (APA).

Polls indicate that Americans want to stay in the agreement by an overwhelming margin.

Trump made cancelling the agreement a key part of his rhetoric during the campaign.

Espinosa refused to comment on the impact of a possible US withdrawal from the talks or even the entire climate change accord. "We're still in for bold climate action". Another co-signer of the letter, the Heartland Institute, was recently exposed for sending materials to school teachers that questioned the veracity of climate change science. Last month also, an initial conversation between aides about the future of USA participation in the accord was pushed back by a week.

Administration has postponed making final decision on agreement multiple times. And some of America's most recognized brands, including Facebook, Gap, Adobe, Apple, Levi's, Mars and Unilever, appear as signatories.

Trump and Macron agreed during the phone call to meet during a May 25 North Atlantic Treaty Organisation leaders meeting in Brussels, the White House said. The campaign is sponsored by the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) in cooperation with the sustainability nonprofit Ceres.

Under the shadow of a possible USA pullout from the 2015 Paris climate accord, envoys are meeting in Germany on implementing the details of the deal. But nothing is certain.

The co-authors say the Paris Agreement strengthens competitiveness by ensuring a more balanced global climate effort and will reduce future climate impacts, including damage to business facilities and operations, declining agricultural productivity and water supplies and disruption of global supply chains.
