Facing anxious European leaders, Trump goes on offensive

The American President literally humiliated Montenegrin Prime Minister Dusko Markovic who apparently was standing in his way when the group made a decision to take a photo.

Trump went on to complain that North Atlantic Treaty Organisation states owed the U.S. taxpayer money and to say that a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation "core task" should be to control "immigration" in future.

As a presidential candidate, Trump railed against NATO's financial burden-sharing, suggesting the USA might only come to the defense of countries that meet the alliance's guidelines - for committing 2 percent of their gross domestic product to military spending.

Trump is spending two days at the G-7, the final stop on his maiden worldwide trip.

Trump arrived late Thursday night in Sicily for meetings today with leaders from the Group of 7 wealthy nations.

The decision was a political one because all North Atlantic Treaty Organisation member states were already part of the US-led coalition.

The G7 is an informal forum on global governance comprising the United States, Canada, France, Britain, Germany, Italy and Japan.

White House spokesperson Sean Spicer, when asked about Trump moving past Markovic, said he had not seen the video but assumed the USA president was moving to his designated spot.

"Values and principles first, this is what we - Europe and America - should be saying", Tusk told reporters. His arrival was also shadowed by new criticism from British Prime Minister Theresa May, who complained about leaks of intelligence to the American media about this week's deadly bombing at a concert in Manchester, England. "I would also like to say that it is natural for the USA president to be in the front row", he said, and, stressed, with a smile: "It belongs to him".

The event will discuss climate change and Russian Federation sanctions in what could prove to be more stumbling blocks.

French President Emmanuel Macron appeared to go out of his way to avoid shaking hands with Donald Trump during a very public meeting in Brussels.
