Kushner called Lockheed CEO about $100B Saudi arms deal

The deals are the latest in a series of controversial arms sales by the Trump administration to governments with poor human rights records, including the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.

Kushner's phone call doesn't break any laws since Lockheed Martin is the only company that produces the radar system, meaning the contract can't be offered to another organization.

Even before the reports that he was the subject of the Russian investigation, Jared Kushner's role in the White House has come under scrutiny - including his role in a recently completed $100 billion arms deal with Saudi Arabia.

"Frankly, Saudi Arabia has not treated us fairly, because we are losing a tremendous amount of money in defending Saudi Arabia", Trump said.

These reports are a follow up of one of two major stories which broke yesterday while Donald Trump made a trip to Saudi Arabia.

In a statement, a White House official called the defense deal "a significant expansion of the over seven-decade long security relationship between" the United States and Saudi Arabia.

The White House responded to the New York Times by saying that Trump meant to tell the Russians about Comey, adding that the President thought the line would help open negotiations with Putin's delegation. Lockheed Martin is an American global aerospace, defense, security and advanced technologies company. The incident echoes a similar bargaining tactic in February when Trump called Hewson to lower the price of F-35 fighter jets it was selling to the Pentagon.

The newspaper is citing unidentified people familiar with the investigation.

The report was published as Mr Trump travelled to Saudi Arabia on the first leg of a trip overseas that the White House hopes will shift attention away from the political firestorm triggered by his firing last week of former FBI Director James Comey.

"Mr. Kushner will certainly not be the last person the committee calls to give testimony, but we expect him to be able to provide answers to key questions that have arisen in our inquiry", said a statement from the Senate intelligence committee.

But the scope of Kushner's influence on matters of foreign policy have remained in the spotlight through the early months of Trump's presidency.

A senior White House official is a person of interest in the investigation into ties between Russian Federation and the Donald Trump campaign, the Washington Post has reported. But he brings a perspective to this, and began doing that during the transition.
