Organizers Of Pemberton Festival Declare Bankruptcy, No Automatic Refunds

A notice of this was shared on the official website of the festival yesterday, May 19 (visit here).

Q: I purchased a ticket for the 2017 Pemberton Music Festival, can I get a refund from PMF or from a third party?

The festival was planned for July 13 to 16 in Pemberton, British Columbia. It's one thing to cancel a festival but nonrefundable tickets make for an even worse reputation.

The firm stated that the festival owes its secured creditors approximately US$2.5 million. Ticketholders must file a claim through Ernst & Young with no guarantee of a refund.

"Unfortunately there are no automatic refunds from [Pemberton Music Festival]", reads the letter posted.

"We were informed today by bankruptcy trustee Ernst & Young that, as part of Pemberton Music Festival's bankruptcy filing in Canada, a stay was put in place freezing all funds for this event".

This year's lineup was set to include Chance the Rapper, Muse, A Tribe Called Quest, Run The Jewels, Diplo, Major Lazer, HAIM, Tegan & Sara, Migos, Little Uzi Vert, Future Islands, Lil Yachty, The Avalanches, Joey Bada$$, Thundercat, Noname, Hamilton Leithauser and more.

"We understand the difficulties that go into the planning and execution of a large-scale festival event", said Eva Dunford, one of the partners in Republic Live, the promotion company behind WayHome and the hugely successful country camp-out Boots & HeartsBoots & Hearts, in a statement issued early Friday afternoon.

The creditors will need to provide supporting documentation to prove these claims.

The festival's Twitter account was deleted, but confused fans flocked to the Facebook page to demand answers.

He says the fact that the Pemberton Festival went along without a hitch until now proves that the town is a great site for that type of event. Patrons may have to wait weeks to learn whether they will get their money back. They should contact their bank or credit card issuer regarding a refund, the document says.

Neilson said he believes the festival went bankrupt by bringing in US firms and staff for the event and paying double or triple what local firms would have charged.

"In due course, the Trustee will provide further details concerning contact information for the various credit cards and financial institutions on its website".
