Melissa McCarthy adds spice (and Spicer) as host of 'SNL'

Spicer, played by McCarthy, lashed out at the mock press corps over questions about Russian Federation and Trump's firing of former Federal Bureau of Investigation direct James Comey.

Most of the press corps' questions focused on the big news of the week: Comey and the FBI investigation into ties between Russian Federation and Trump campaign associates. Even Baldwin implied as much when he stated recently he might retire his Trump impression at the end of this "SNL" season next week. Baldwin's Trump insisted that it had less to do with the economy and more about sex with the First Lady.

Midway through last night's episode, the Saturday Night Live host emerged from the White House shrubbery and pushed aside Aidy Bryant's Sarah Huckabee Sanders - the White House's temporary fill-in at press briefings - to deliver another rendition of her aggressively disagreeable imitation of Spicer. Here it is again, just in case you missed (or want to relive) the wonder that is McCarthy's musical number transformation into Sean "Spicey" Spicer. The press corps suggest to Spicer that Trump might be lying to him, which prompts a long teleprompter ride to New York City to ascertain the truth. Holt was, naturally, interviewing President Trump (Alec Baldwin) on the topic of James Comey's dismissal, the reason for which Trump's Whitehouse has spent the past week attempting to explain away in an absolute clusterfuck of contradictions. Laughing at the real-life absurdities beats crying. McCarthy's angry Spicer announces after storming into the room following the suggestion that Sanders simply replace him.

President Trump then steps forward, urging Spicer to lean in for a kiss.

As a Mother's Day treat, Melissa McCarthy whisked an audience member at Saturday Night Live backstage, and there were a lot of surprises.

"If he's insane, he's insane like a fox with mental problems", McCarthy-as-Spicer told a reporter who asked whether Trump was "unhinged".

"Oh my god, Glen, do I come to your job and slap the seven or eight hot dogs out of your mouth?" she said.

Of course, when it's suggested that "Sanders" run the press briefings instead of Spicer from now on, "Spicer" can't take it. I don't want to ruin the surprises in this sweet confection of a sketch, but needless to say, it is flawless and Melissa McCarthy is a goddess.
